I get my pivot table to show any type of percentage of the total. In my data set I have organizations that are reporting their number of employees in different occupation levels (Board, Executive, Supervisors, Etc.). I am now trying to get it to show me not only the total number of each type of occupation, but their corresponding percent of the total sum of occupations. I have the sum of the occupations also inserted as a calculated field. When I do Show Values as % of Occupations, nothing happens. Also when I do Show Values as % of grand total or row total, it just brings back 100%, and when I do show values as % of parent row it makes the cell blank. Please help, I am new at pivot tables and so confused, thank you!

Excel Facts

Quick Sum
Select a range of cells. The total appears in bottom right of Excel screen. Right-click total to add Max, Min, Count, Average.
Why your pivot table has only one row data. It should be more than one.
For showing grand total for rows , you should add some data to column window (except values).

Once you have created the calculated field of the total, you can then use it in the formula for creating another one - % of Service workers formula would be = 'Sum of Service Workers' / 'Sum of Occupations'.
You always get 100% because you are telling Excel to divide the numbers its added up by the total for that item in the row which will always be the same number (100% of the time)
