To Explain, in Cell E1 I want the word "Check" to appear only if both Cells B1 and C1 are blank, if either B1 or C1 contain data there is no check to be done and Cell E1 should be blank. The data in columns B and C will most probably be a letter x.

Also, I am thinking that a tick in Cells B1 and C1 looks better than an x, would it be more difficult if the data in columns B and C were ticks (using the Windings Font)

cheers in advance for any help/assistance.

How to calculate loan payments in Excel?
Use the PMT function: =PMT(5%/12,60,-25000) is for a $25,000 loan, 5% annual interest, 60 month loan.
Hi, you're talking about a few different things here.

If you want to check that both B1 and C1 are blank, try
=if(B1&C1="","Check","")

If you want to check that both B1 and C1 contain the letter X and nothing else, try
=if(and(B1="X",C1="X"),"Check","")

If you want to check that both B1 and C1 contain a single tick in wingdings and nothing else, try
=if(and(code(B1)=252,code(C1)=252),"Check","")

Thank you for the speedy reply - the first one works a treat for now, I will try the last one if I decide to use the ticks.
