Football Fixtures…
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
Hi, I’m trying to re-build my workbook…My previous efforts haven’t had a fixture list. I’ve been putting the fixtures into my workbooks on a weekly basis and then entering the results.
<o:p> </o:p>
I now have an interim workbook with the season’s fixtures in.
<o:p> </o:p>
So using Data Validation I select a week number (C4 in the Jeanie below) and my games appear as in my Jeanie…
<o:p> </o:p>
My question is, how will I manage this when there are midweek games that have previously been postponed? i.e. there could be a game from week 1, week 6 and week 7.

Hi

I wouldn't worry about the "week number" at all but prefer to focus on the match date.

At any point in time you have the fixture list relating to a Saturday, a Sunday or a mid-week fixture. Those games will be played unless there is a postponement due to the weather or an abandonment in which case the fixture is rescheduled.

When validating the results you should only be interested in the actual day you are processing the results for.

Hi Mike…
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
How are things? A big week ahead for <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on">North London</st1:place> in the Champions League…
<o:p> </o:p>
Short of you seeing my workbook I’m finding it hard to explain why match date has no relevance in my book but “week number” does… I’ll try the following…
<o:p> </o:p>
As you’ve pointed out, a match date does change however, the “week number” never changes… <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Chelsea</st1:place></st1:City> v Man U was always “week number” 18… When I eventually entered the result into my workbook the match date, 01 Mar 11, only becomes relevant then.
<o:p> </o:p>
What I’m saying is, if I have the fixtures by “week number” which is how they are publicised, I would need to change the dates of my fixtures because of postponement… If my workbook isn’t dependant on match date then match date only becomes relevant once the match has been played.
<o:p> </o:p>
The books I current have are a pain due to postponements’ and I’m trying to solve that…

The Russian Premier League is about to start... If I give you a copy of that workbook you'll see my problem...

Quite shocked by that as I thought fixtures were generated according to the finishing positions for the previous season.

Maybe others would like to refer to it as a "round" or "cycle" rather than a week. And if the match is postponed for the situations I previously mentioned that match date becomes irelevant again.

As I have suggested don't worry about the long term but concentrate more on the short term, say two weeks to one month when the fixture dates are "cast in concrete".

By all means send me a copy of the Russian workbook.
