IF conditional formula

Hi

I'm sure this is simple but I need a formula in a column that differs depending on the value in another column.

This is how I would define it:

IF A1="APPLES" THEN formula = G1-K1 ELSEIF A1="PEARS" THEN formula = K1-G1

It simply swaps the column values around in the actual formula to be used depending on the value in another column.

Can someone help please?

Thanks

Rob

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
Re: IF conditional formula help?

Like this:

=IF(A1="APPLES",G1-K1,IF(A1="PEARS",K1-G1,FALSE))

The 2nd IF is placed as the false statement of the first IF.
