Dead simple, but oh so hard!

All I want to do is test if A1:E1 contain anything, and if so, put an 'x' in F1.

I have tried {=IF((A1:E1)>1,"x")} (array formula) but this only works on A1 and ignores the rest of the range. I have also tried various combinations of Countif etc with no joy either.

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.

In F1:
=IF(COUNTA(A1:E1)>0,"x","")
