If function to returrn blank

I have data in Col A. I have set up a formula to extract all the data to the left before - appears in Col A and to return a blank if the cell in A2 is blank. It extracts the required text perfectly

=IF(A2="","",LEFT(A2,FIND("-",A2)-1)))

I then wanted to add to the formula to return a blank where text "Total" appears in Col A for e.g. "Total outstanding - Current", but cannot get this to work

 =IF(A2="*total*","",IF(A2="","",LEFT(A2,FIND("-",A2)-1)))

It would be appreciated if someone can kindly assist me
