Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
A1058,

I think I have it.

The formula goes in cell K2:

=IF(Z2<17,SUM(AA2:AA2),IF(Z2="","",SUM(Z2:Z2)))

Have a great day,
Stan

I think it may be even simpler.

In K2 put

=IF(Z2="","",IF(Z2<17,AA2,Z2))

You need to check for the null condition first, or your formula won't work.
