I am trying to create an IF statement using a VLOOKUP. I have a workbook with a price list. The price list contains a VLOOKUP to another worksheet within the workbook called Product List. The Product List has the % increase in which our products are going up and the Effective Date.

I need to create a VLOOKUP with an IF statement that says - Look up the date on the Product list, IF date on the product list is 1/01/1900 then use the date on the Price list instead.

Here is the formula I have for the VLOOKUP on the product sheet
=VLOOKUP(G:G,'Product List - % Increase'!$D$35:$F$1098,3,FALSE)
IF that is 1/01/1900 Then I want it to
=VLOOKUP(P59,'Pricing Special NA as of 41911'!$C$1:$Q$20967,9,FALSE)

Can you help me please?

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
Try
Code:
=IF(VLOOKUP(G:G,'Product List - % Increase'!$D$35:$F$1098,3,FALSE)=1,VLOOKUP(P59,'Pricing Special NA as of 41911'!$C$1:$Q$20967,9,FALSE),VLOOKUP(G:G,'Product List - % Increase'!$D$35:$F$1098,3,FALSE))

Typically, you only do a lookup on one cell like this...

=VLOOKUP(G1

1/01/1900 is simply the number 1 formatted to look like a date.

Maybe this...

=IF(VLOOKUP(G1,'Product List - % Increase'!$D$35:$F$1098,3,0)=1,VLOOKUP(P59,'Pricing Special NA as of 41911'!$C$1:$Q$20967,9,0),VLOOKUP(G1,'Product List - % Increase'!$D$35:$F$1098,3,0))

thanks for the quick response. i think i may have miscommunicated what i am trying to do so I am starting over.

I need an IF statement with a VLOOKUP.

I have a master workbook which contains several worksheets. There is a Product List Worksheet which has our products, % Increase column for raising the price and an effective date column. I also have a Master Price Sheet with customer pricing. The pricing is changed based on the % increase and effective date from the Product List (I have VLOOKUP set up for this.) Then I have customer price sheets - each one specific to a customer. The prices and effective dates on these sheets are done with a VLOOKUP to the Price List. My problem is, I have 2 dates on the Price Sheet. I want the VLOOKUP on my customer price sheet to state:
VLOOKUP Column J IF Column J is 1/01/1900 then VLOOKUP Column K.

Here is my VLOOKUP for Column K.
=VLOOKUP(P60,'Pricing Special NA as of 41911'!$C$1:$Q$20967,9,FALSE)

Thank you for the response. That formula does not work though.

It is reading the date in column J (8) but not reading the date in column K (9.) I want it to read column J (8) first. If column J has a date of 1/01/1900, I want to pull in the date in column K (9.)

Can you help me?

If your table array range is C:Q, then column_index_num 8 = column J.

The formula looks in column J and if the value is 1 (the same as date 1/01/1900) then it adds 1 to column 8 to give you column 9 which is column K within the table array.

1/01/1900 = the number 1.

Enter that date in a cell then change the cell format to General.

You didn't say what should happen if column J does not contain 1 (1/01/1900). If it doesn't then the formula will return whatever is in column J (unless the lookup value does not exist and you get a #N/A error).

Here's a small sample file that demonstrates this.

zzzMYeag.xls 15kb

It's a simplified version of the EXACT formula I've been suggesting. (smaller range and everything on one sheet so it's easy to see what's happening)

It is not working. I am putting in the formula you suggested. It reads the date in column K(8) but is not pulling the date for column J (9) when K reads 1/1/1900.

I dont want to change the format to general because i need it to be in a date format.

Ok, I just noticed some differences in this post compared to what you've been saying in the other posts.

In this post I think you have the column description backwards.

You've been saying the date will be 1/1/1900 but in this sample data there are no 1/1/1900 entries. There are 1/0/1900 entries (which are 0s formatted as dates).

Could that be where we're getting mixed up?
