If using date values

Hi all

I have a spreadsheet that has a connection to a sharepoint survey. Column K populates with a date/time combination that looks like the below:

Column K

08/06/2015 15:30:35

Column J also has a date as entered into the sharepoint survey, for example:

01/05/2015

What I want to do in Column L is an IF statement:

=if(k2<=j2,"slick","clunky")

which works if I manually input the dates but always returns "slick" when using the data as it exists above.

So far I've tried using excel 2007's 'text to column' feature to pull apart the date and time but the IF formula still doesn't work as expected

What am I doing wrong?
