I have two excel documents.

book1.xls and book2.xls

book2 needs to be populated from book1. I do not know how to write a lot of function codes, so I need help.

I'm not only needing the document to populate from the other, but I also need it to calculate some equations based on the information in one of the books. I have a screen shot of what I'm trying to do, if you are up for the challenge, please respond, because I don't think this can be done, and need some advice.

Thanks
Jacob

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
"If you can figure this out, you're a genius!"...but only because it would require mind reading! How about posting back with a more detailed description of the data in the soucre workbook, where it's held, where you want it in the destination workbook, what calculations you need etc. Consider using the html maker addin (see the link below this post) to post up a snapshot of the data.

More info please!

Hi Paddy!

Wow, I can't believe it's you! You helped me a long time ago on an excel problem I had. And I'm a student working on a project, so I really appreciate.

Okay, here goes! You will probably need to look at the image, but I don't have anyway, cause I can't use HTML on my computer right now.

book1 consists of several last names in column a.

book2 is an actual audit of an individual (one of the last names).

There are question answers in book1, and I need to take these answers, add them up, and populate them into book2, then I need to calculate an average.

Also, several answers have been submitted for each question. So that is the reason I have to calculate an average.

In book2, cell C8 asks for the total points received for Question 1a. I need book2 to scan and find the last name in book1 for the last name listed in book2 (cell B4). Then I need it to add up the score for Question 1a for that last name, and place that score in book2 cell C8. Then I need it to take that score and calculate the average between the available answers for that particular question.

There are a total of 28 questions. I think if you had a screen shot of what I'm talking about it will help. If you would like me to email it, send me your email address.

Thanks Again!
Jacob :)

Never a truer word spoken!

I'm fairly sure I understand your general need, but cannot take this any further without knowing precisely where each of your bits of data are (eg. book1, sheet2, col A, cells A1:A150 (including header in row 1).

Please be more specific...it would really help if you gave a worked example...
