Hi Guys - I can do this but I'm sure there's a simpler solution. I just need to sum a column giving each cell a value of 1 if it has a text entry.

So I have entries in cells (C8:C16) if there are three cells with text entries I'd like the sum to be 3. Your thoughts would be very appreciated.

At the moment I'm considering an IF statement and believe there is an ISTEXT type solution. Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.

=COUNTIF(C8:C16,"?*")

would count all text in but exclude formula blanks, i.e., "".
