I am trying to implement a database in Excel to keep track of stock.

Each item has a serial number and I want to keep a history of each item (e.g. faulty, modified, spare, damaged) along with the date for each history.

The history for each item (i.e. the number of rows) will vary for each item. It would also be useful to filter using the serial number to see the history of each item.

What is the best way to do this in Excel ? I am happy to use macros and/or forms if necessary.

An example is shown in the picture below. The + symbol is a method of adding another history to the item.

Excel Facts

Test for Multiple Conditions in IF?
Use AND(test, test, test, test) or OR(test, test, test, ...) as the logical_test argument of IF.
Hi,
Have a look here:http://www.contextures.com/excelfiles.html

Scroll down & Look for file: UF0017 - Parts Database with Updateable Comboboxes
Where you can download file for free.

May not be exactly what you want but could be used as a basis to get your project started.
