Hi all,

Trying to import the Data Model from Power Pivot to Power BI so I can document the Model using Power BI Model Documenter v2 by Marc Lelijveld.
However, I am getting an error:

Migration Failed: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Has anyone seen this issue and know of a fix/workaround?

Thanks,
-w

Excel Facts

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
As best as I can tell, you cannot import the Data Model - it just doesn't show up. The only thing I can think of (and I have NO experience with this) is that you pulled data into the Excel Data Model using one of the Excel Data Model methods:

so have no tables or sheets. In Excel, if you load the Data Model into at least a Pivot Table. That said, I've never seen that error, and can't make it happen!

Thanks Jerry,

I created an Excel workbook with 365 dates in it - saved and closed.
I created a new Excel workbook, went to the Data Model, and imported the Calendar Workbook. - Saved and closed.
I created a new Power BI Data Model and imported the new Excel Workbook.
This small simple Power Pivot Data Model imported with no issue to Power BI.
There must be something about the other workbook or the Data Model in that workbook that is preventing me from importing it into Power BI.

Resolved.

Steps:
  1. I made a copy of the Excel file.
  2. I deleted all sheets that did not contain a data source for the Data Model
  3. Saved. Closed
  4. In Power BI, I tried to import the copy of the file.
  5. Success!
