This might be a newbie question, but I can't find the answer. I have multiple excel file, all in the same directory. Files have the same name+weeknumber. So file01.xls, file02.xls, file03.xls etc. I want to copy/import one single cell (lets say A1) into a new workbook. So file total.xls, sheet1 row B should contain A1 of file01.xls, A1 of file02.xls etc. Surrely there must be an easy way to do this???

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
Hi,

Why don't you just open total.xls and type in = in B1 and then select A1 in file01.xls, hit + and select A1 in file02.xls, hit + and select A1 in file03.xls, and so on until you covered all files and then go Enter.

Hope this helps

Thanx for the reply. That will probably work, but I was hoping that it could be done without opening the other excel files. Maybe I should elaborate my problem a bit. Currently I have six directories, representing year 2000 till 2005. Each directory contains 52 excel files (the weeks). From each Excel I have to import five cell values into total.xls. So manually copy/paste would mean over 1500 actions.

Besides, as a guess, I don't think it's a good idea to have 1500 link in one workbook.

Especially not when you’re linking to other workbooks.

Edit: I have workbooks with an excess of links within the same workbook and it works without any problem.
