Increase column reference when copied down

I have a sumifs function where I would like to increase the criteria range by one letter when copied down. The formula reads as follows:

=SUMIFS(A:A, D:D, 1)

In the cell directly below it when copied down, I would like the formula to act as though the column reference to D:D increased to E:E, but allow all else to remain the same.
 

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).

=SUMIFS(A:A,OFFSET(D:D,0,ROW(1:1)*1-1),1)

Another option
Excel Formula:
=SUMIFS(A:A, INDEX(D:Z,,ROWS(AA$2:AA2)), 1)
Change the AA$2:AA2 part to reflect the cell the formula is first entered in.
