Cell A1 = name of a different file (G:\workbooks\sheet.xlsx)

I want to pull information from a cell in that file to into Cell C1.

Is there a way to do that without directly linking the files so its based on formula? I thought INDEX would work but I cant seem to figure it out.

Thanks in advance

Shade all formula cells
To shade all formula cells: Home, Find & Select, Formulas to select all formulas. Then apply a light fill color.
Hi,

You need to use the INDIRECT formula. Something like this should work:

=INDIRECT("'["&A1&"]Sheet1'!$C$1")

Apparently the issue is that INDIRECT needs the file to be open at all times. I need it to work with the file closed
