I have a table in A1:D6 with values already entered (basically, index of each state having answered each question (or not) ).
I want to have user pick a question in G1.
Then what I need are the formulas to feed into G4:G6 that will return the matching state from column A when the value is found for the selected question.
I know it's something to do with Match and index and a nested index with one parameter set to zero to return an array, but I cannot make it work...

Thank you for your help in advance!

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
What version of Excel are you using?

I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

Also can you have the same number more than once in a particular column?

thanks for the tip on version - i just updated. 365.

Each column B:D are indices, that is... no, there will be unique (and ordered) values in each column. A column may have no values or every cell may be filled in. here I show each column having 2 or 3 values. These are counts that I've generated through a different process....

Solution
You're welcome & thanks for the feedback.

Xlookup is one of the newer functions & has only been around for about a year
