I am new to Excel and having trouble getting the following to work, hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction to get this going, it would be very much appreciated!

On sheet one, I would like to have the Computer Serial Number cells (Column D) on Sheet one (below), check against another column on Sheet 2 (bottom Image)...

If the Serial Number is matched on Column B of Sheet 2, I am trying to get Excel to grab the corosponding Asset Tag on Sheet 2 (Column A) and populate the Column G cell on Sheet 1.

I am just unable to figure this out, and would really appreciate some help if someone has a few minutes to take a look or at minimum point me in the right direction. Thank you!

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).

in Cell G

=index(sheet2!A:A, match(sheet1!D2, Sheet2!B:B,0)
bring back a value from column A sheet2 =index(sheet2!A:A

match(sheet1!D2, Sheet2!B:B,0)
Look through the column sheet2 B nd see if the value Sheet1B2 is there if it is
then it returns the corresponding value in sheet2AA from the index bit

0 means an exact match is required

Hi & welcome to MrExcel.
How about something like
Excel Formula:
=IFNA(INDEX(Sheet2!$A$2:$A$100,MATCH(D2,Sheet2!$B$2:$B$100,0)),"")

Thank you! Both replies were very easy to understand, which I appreciate, and Fluff's answer is what worked best in this particular situation after I changed some ranges and variables =)
