I have a sheet(sheet 1) with 4 columns of data. We'll say the columns are titled
ACCOUNT, AMOUNT, DATE, ID. I have another sheet(sheet 2) with a bunch of account numbers. I want to see if the accounts in sheet2 are listed in sheet 1 and if they are i need the data that corresponds to the amount data for that account. Any idea on how I can do that?

Excel Facts

Wildcard in VLOOKUP
Use =VLOOKUP("Apple*" to find apple, Apple, or applesauce

Sounds like a job for SUMIF

Have you tried using the sumif command?

Are you trying to total the amounts for each account?

Countif will count the number of rows with that account#

If the accounts are unique in the ACCOUNT, AMOUNT, DATE, ID list then use vlookup.

Sumif will work if you are looking to total the numbers in the ID column
this is the the Vlookup formula if the sheet1 info you specified begins in cell A1, and you are returning the ID from column "D", & sheet2 accounts are also beginning in cell A1.

=VLOOKUP(Sheet2!A1,Sheet1!A2:D6,4,TRUE)

and this is the same thing with indirect

=INDIRECT("sheet1!d"&MATCH(Sheet2!A1,Sheet1!A1:A6,0))
