I have searched and not found an answer to this problem. I have a spreadsheet where I am going to be inputting times regularly and I want to be able to use the number key pad only, something like pressing 0722 and getting 07:22, or 1325 and getting 13:25. I do not want to use the "shift" then ":" keys. I have tried to format the cell using the "Format Cell", "Number", "Time" and selecting 13:30 but all I get is 0:00 no matter what I key in. I want something like the Special-Phone number format. What am I missing?

Excel Facts

Shade all formula cells
To shade all formula cells: Home, Find & Select, Formulas to select all formulas. Then apply a light fill color.
Custom format the cell as

00\:00

Caveat,

If you're using these cells for calculations later, you'll have to convert these "times".

How do you "convert these times"?

I am trying to calculate total time between a starting and ending time.

http://www.cpearson.com/excel/DateTimeEntry.htm will probably work, but it is beyond what i know how to do. I may have to learn more.

=TEXT(A1,"00\:00")+0

and format the cell that houses the formula as Time

Use the formula, then it becomes

=Endtime-Starttime

Does the start/end times run past midnight?
