Hello

I love inserting a link an my Excel data/table into my Word Docs. I use this very frequently. I use preformatted word docs or type over old word docs.

Every so often, when i do the same steps, the table does not appear in the doc. It is about the size of a single line. It has "handles" like a picture. I can double click and edit this graphic, but it does not perform like the link.

I figure there is some type of "hidden code" messing with the format or the inserting of the link. Any suggestions or explanations?

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Hi Joel,

When this happens, if you press Alt-F9, do you see something like:
{LINK Excel.# "C:\Path\Filename"}
where the link should be? If not, something has fallen over in the paste link process (perhaps you forgot the check the 'paste link' button) and you've pasted the data as an embedded object instead.

thanks for feedback. I have not used the Atl F-9 combo b4. Yet, when the link fails, it does appear like an embedded object. So I undo it and do to the proper steps over and over and it makes no difference (still will not work). What will work sometimes is to scroll to another insertion point in the doc, and paste the link. If it works properly, i then cut and paste to re-arrange the document's contents. This is just inefficient.

any other feedback?

Hi joel,

You might try doing a repair on Office. Howver, as you don't say which Office version or OS you're using, I can't advise the details.
