For a given year ‘y’, I would like to create a function that will create (2007 – y) rows, and fill the cells with the formulas of the rows preceding it (all of which contain relative referencing).

How do I go about this?

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.

Welcome to the MrExcel board!

I suspect that your post has not received a reply up till now because readers are not quite sure what you want. Let's try to clarify a few things:

1. Where will the "given year 'y' " come from? Will it be in a cell? Which cell?

2. " create (2007 - y) rows". Where will these rows be exactly?

3. " the rows preceding it". Which rows are these now? Are they the last rows used in the sheet at the moment? Which columns do they use?

4. Do the "rows preceding it" contain only formulas? Or are there other values as well? If both, which columns contain formulas and which don't?

It would be much easier if you could show us a small sample of your sheet (or one like it). Perhaps you would consider downloading Colo's HTML Maker or Excel jeanie to do so? Here are the links to do that:
Colo’s HTML Maker:
http://www.mrexcel.com/board2/viewtopic.php?t=92622
or Excel jeanie:

Failing that, can you describe much more precisely what your sheet looks like (including row/column/cell references, formulas etc) as well as what you are trying to do.
