Inserting a row value into a formula

I add new records to a worksheet every day, I use the Max(a1:ayyyy) to tell me the highest value in the range, which includes the new rows just added. I have a cell that tells me the last entry, I would like to use the value of that cell to insert into yyyy so I don't have to manually change the entry each day.

I know this is easy - I must have a mental block.

thanks in advance,
dan

Test for Multiple Conditions in IF?
Use AND(test, test, test, test) or OR(test, test, test, ...) as the logical_test argument of IF.

The easist way is not to specify rows at all. If you don't have other data below this range you can use =max(a:a)

Do you need the last row number?

Thanks so much - that works, one slight problem is I would like to keep the results at the top of the sheet in the same column, to use Max(a:a) i have to put the result in column B, if I put in Column A, i get a circular reference or I include other totals I don't want...
