I have created a assignment list for a large gathering. Sheet 1 contains a list in column 1 of all adults attending, 40 names.

Sheet 2 contains a list in column 1 of tasks needed for the gathering. For example bringing items, cooking, cleaning. In column 2 contains a validation list referencing the list in column 1 of sheet 1 (the names). So as I add new tasks in column 1, I select next to the task in column 2 from the pop up list the person I will assign the task.

What is missing is a list of those whom have not yet been assigned a task. What I would like to see in sheet two column 5 lets say, is a list of all those with no task. Then as I add a task to the list, I can reference the list of those not yet assigned a task in column 5 and then pull up their name up in column 2.

Any ideas on what kind of function I could use to create list list?

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Hello Eric,

I had to do a similar thing for assigning meeting roles to the attendees and I created a template to do this.

I created 2 drop down lists:
  • One with Tasks
  • Another with names

As you select a name from the list for a task, it doesn't appear in other drop downs.

Here is the template --> Download

You can read more about how it works here: Creating drop down without repitition.
