Invisible formatting in Excel causes problems in other apps?

I have an issue occasionally with formating that cannot be seen causing problems in other applications that use Excel files, specifically a program for Testing Automation called Quick Test Pro.

When reading an input file, it will error out with a general error message, but deleting about 10 rows below the visible data will eliminate the problem.

I can simply take this procaution in the future, but would like to know what is likely to be the cause of it, and what type of invisible stuff (formatting?) that is in those cell.

Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,

Scott

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
This seems to be the old problem that we have with Excel that somehow it "remembers" if we have had data at the bottom of a worksheet and subsequently deleted it.

The only solution so far has been to delete the "empty" rows - as you have discovered.
