Is Excel the best solution for this?

This is just an idea, I just want to know if all of this is possible, I don't need (yet, lol) formulas or codes to accomplish it.

I realize there are programs out there that will do just what I am proposing, but they are ridiculously expensive and have way too many fancy things on them that I do need nor will I ever use.

I have 30 employees working in a manufacturing shop. Currently, I have them write time cards and specify job start times.

An example step by step of what I want to happen:

-Excel is open on computer, ready for barcode scan.
-Employee scans his card.
-Employees name is displayed.
-Cell is selected automatically for employee to type in his job#.
-Employee has option to click button saying Submit or Clock Out.
-Upon clicking either button, Employee number, job#(or clock out) and time (in 24h format) is recorded on other worksheet, input sheet is cleared and ready for next barcode scan. **I would like also if book could save itself at this point as well, if not, then I would like book to save itself at regular intervals.

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
I would think that this could be done with a Userform. And I know there are people on here who know about doing barcode scanning into Excel.

How familiar are you with coding? Just thinking that you're unlikely to get someone on here to build the whole thing for you - so given that you weren't sure even how to start, you might be better off approaching mrexcel consulting to build it?
