Is there a better way?

I have an Index/Match formula in cell F3 which checks for an entry in cell K3. If there is none, then cell F3="" otherwise the formula returns a monetary value. This value needs to be used in another calculation in cell J3, but I was getting a #Value error in cell J3. I have used the 'N' function to use the result of F3's formula and it appears to working fine, but I wondered if there was a better way of doing this. Thanks.

I am using Excel 2007 with Windows Vista
