What I am looking for a vba way to check if data in a column range is in sorted order (default=ascending; optionally=descending). Any suggestions?

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
You'd have to loop through it checking if each cell was <= the one below it.

You could use a formula that essentially does the same thing.
