Hi pedie,

I receive a file from a third party in the format of .xlsm which I open and then select save as and change the format to .xls, before running some code on a master file that opens this particular file but in an .xls format.

Since it comes in as an email, it's currently easier for me to manually save it down as an .xls file, but depending on your needs, you may need to adjust your macro to open it as is and then use save as?

I'm curious to see other's thoughts on this, hence also why replying but with something maybe not so useful to you - sorry!

Okay sorry it does not work for me...Maybe I am not doing it right way.
I click on options >> save as >> manually changed to book12.xls but it picked that as file name and not as extention.

Please input guys!

You need to speficfy the file format in the 'Save as type:' drop-down in the save as dialog. You should choose Excel 97-2003 Workbook

EDIT:
Beware though because the workbook may contain elements not compatible with 2003 and may therefore caause errors or unexpected results.

Trial and error, try it out on clicking yes and see what happens and clicking no!
