Hi Excel gurus,

Isn't it odd to have both these functions, when ISERROR() does ALL that ISERR() does except of course not capturing '#N/A' s?

One of the Excel oddities? :)

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.

If you need to error trap and don't have to worry about #N/A then you can save a couple of keystrokes by using ISERR!

ISERR is handy for charting, where you might be happy to allow the #N/A result to propagate to prevent plotting.
