Issues with dividing share

Hi,

I have a spreadsheet that calculated a share equally between individuals that are part of a car deal. A deal can have anywhere between 1-5 shares. I am calculating these shares automatically based on how many names I have entered. I simply could the cells with test and divide the shares equally based on that. I have additional calculations based on these shares.

This works fine for even number of members. However, for odd number (such as below), I am left with a remainder. This messes up all the calculations because numbers do not match up. Is there a way around this remainder issue? Perhaps automatically assign one person the remainder?

NameShare %
John.33
Tim.33
Steve.34

Thanks.

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
DJDJDJDJ,

Welcome to MrExcel.

If you use something like the below to compute your basic share then does that divide with sufficient accuracy?

Excel 2007
AB
1NameShare
2John0.3333333333333330
3Tim0.3333333333333330
4Steve0.3333333333333330
Sheet5
Cell Formulas
RangeFormula
B2=1/COUNTA($A$2:$A$6)

Hope that helps.

Thank you Tony. I will check it out.

As an alternative, we have decided that any time there is an odd number of shareholders, 1% goes to charity. :)
