Side issue from thread "Making End-down et. al. respect empty cells":

When I paste a column of query results from Access to Excel, and there are text values (like "FL"), and I've formatted to cells to be text, and they smell, taste, and quack like text ... istext() begs to differ.

The column is copied directly from database view of an Access table (not a query); the field is text with length 2.

I've tried B1=A1 & "" without success.

How can I make istext see "FL" ?

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
I had to reboot and lost the file with the problem, and now can't reproduce it. istext() is now recognizing the Access paste. Perhaps autocalc was off or some other stupid user error. Forgive me for the false alarm (unless I can regenerate it later!).

Thanks to Andrew, not a 100% loss though - I didn't realize the ISNUMBER and ISTEXT were perfect compliments. That may well come in handy sometime. Thanks for responding.
