Hi all,

I was typing along normally when suddenly my keyboard started typing the wrong characters. This is happening ONLY in Excel. I'm working with Excel 2010 on a Windows 7 machine.

I may have fat-fingered something at the lower left of the keyboard (CTRL, SHIFT, ALT, Caps Lock and Windows key) and triggered this, but I can't figure out how to get it back to normal. My Regional and Language settings in Control Panel have not been changed, I checked - besides, this is only happening in Excel.

For example, when I type QWERTY it comes out as ',.pyf

Any help? It's driving me crazy!

Excel Can Read to You
Customize Quick Access Toolbar. From All Commands, add Speak Cells or Speak Cells on Enter to QAT. Select cells. Press Speak Cells.
Give this a try.
With Excel closed go to these folders and if you find files named Personal.xls or Personal.xlsb (beware, they are hidden files) rename them and then restart Excel.

CTRL + SHIFT did it - no idea why. Thanks!

Because windows remembers which application is open and active when you change keyboard layout and applies it only to that application. That's just the shortcut keys.

ALT + SHIFT fixed it for me as well. Apparently there is a difference between the left and right ALT keys, I had to use the left ALT key when fixing it, using the right one did nothing.
