I would like to launch an executable file (via command prompt), wait for the file to complete it's task, and then resume execution of my VBA routine. Does anybody have an example of how I might do this. I am familiar with the Shell function, but am struggling a bit. I've searched the forum but haven't been able to quite piece it together. Help greatly appreciated.

Regards...Tom

ps How do I close the command prompt window from VBA?

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
Do a search for "ShellAndWait+VBA" without the quotes on Google. You should get a method from Stephen Bullen as number 1 answer.

About your PS I imagine you have to use the SendMessage API function, but I'm not too familiar with it.
