how do i create a formula that takes the value in the column to the left minus the value in the column to the left of that and moves as columns are added?

example:

I want to take the take the value in column b and subtract from it the value in column a and then when I insert a new column, column c, the formula moves to column d and takes the value in column c and subtracts from it the value in column b.
