I have a query I want to return a value from a variable in a column.
I have 80910 in the column and I want a new value which is made of the first three numbers in the string.

I have coded into the Field - SCF:Left([VARIABLE],3) and when I attempt to view the query I receive an error message
"Undefined function 'Left' in expression"

What am I doing wrong?

You are not doing anything wrong. Check that you have a reference to Microsoft DAO 3.6 Library set

I don't think you are doing anything wrong.:)

But I do think there could be something wrong with your database.

If you goto the VBA Editor (Alt+F11), then Tools>References... is there anything marked as MISSING?

You might also want to compact and repair the database.

Well uncheck the first reference and check the other one.
