Hello,
I have a list where I need to extract the left most numbers. However, the list has some 9 digit numbers and some 8 digit numbers. If the number has 9 digits, I need the left most 6 digits. If the number has 8 digits, I need the left most 5 digits. I thought maybe including a "count" function would help but I can't figure it out. I appreciate any help you can provide.

I am using Excel 365 on Windows 10 Pro

Thanks in advance!

How about this (for a value in cell A1):
