link problem- will not recalculate if linked workbook is not open

Hi,
I'm linking workbooks and placing them in formulas. Using excel as a database alternative.
It seems the 'linked cells' only recalculate and work when the 'linked workbooks' are open.

I open all linked workbooks and re-calculate my sheet, save, close. works fine. But, once I JUST open my workbook and re-calculate (without linked workbooks open), error shows up: "x workbook has not been recalculated before saving" (which i just did).

I should be able to re-calculate without having to keep all the linked workbooks open everytime, right? If one cell is linked to another workbook without a formula, they update fine. The problem is the cells with linked formulas.
My work around is doing the math in another workbook and just linking the result.

Please help, I have searched and tried to solve this without results. :(

Thanks in advance ;)

Please help. If this is something simple that im not seeing, tell me. I am trying to figure this out.

:confused:

Ok. I found a solution:

[QUOTE] *Actual links* will work on open and/or closed WBs, so I'm assuming that you're talking about formulas that reference other WBs.

Certain functions *do not* work on closed files, such as Sumif(), Countif(),
and Indirect(), among others.

Post back with the formulas you're trying to use, and we'll see about
helping with work-around formulas.

So, Actual links to just one cell work fine. even if the workbook is open or closed. the problem is having links in the formulas. peace.
