Linked Spreadsheet must be open?

I have a spreadsheet (Excel '07) with a couple of very simple links to numbers in another wkbk. Problem is, I have to open both to make the links work (otherwise, I get reference errors.) THis makes it difficult to share with others, as I have to send both around. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
Is this a direct link, or are you doing this inside other worksheet functions? Also, have you made sure that you are saving the data source as an Excel workbook ( and not a text file )?

Hi Glenn,

It's in a a GetPivotTable command - gets the info out of a pivot table in the linked spreadsheet (yes, Excel, not text.) Thanks!

That is not a simple link, it's a very complex link, and one that won't resolve to a closed workbook. That's the way it works.

Oh, ok, thanks. (The Excel Help doesn't say anything about this, or if it does I can't find it.) It occurs to me that I can just move the pivot table itself (and not all the data behind IT) into the workbook that has the links. Thanks Glenn!
