I am linking one worksheet to another but when I link the cells the formula comes out as =Sheet1!$A$1 instead of =Sheet1!A1

I have to drag these formulas across and down so is there a setting that will put the formula in in the first place without the $ signs ?

(I am using Excel 2010)

Excel Facts

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December

Hi Peter, perhaps not the best solution but in the first linked cell, highlight the formula in the formula bar (all of it), then press F4 3 times, then press Enter. You can then drag the formulas as required without the $ signs.

The $A$1 referencing ordinarily only occurs if you're referencing cells in a different workbook; referencing cells in a different worksheet in the same workbook usually results in A1 referencing.

Apologies, I meant workbook. I know I can edit the cell (or use f4) but I was wondering if there was, say, a setting I could change that will not make it necessary.
