linking vs. cutting and pasting

is linking two cells the same as just cutting and pasting? if not, what is the difference in the outcome of one vs. the other?

Depends on the application. You might have a sheet that's invisible to everyone but you, but there are others who need to see some of the data on that sheet. You could make links to refer to all that data without having to unhide it on your sensitive data sheet. Just off the top of my head. :cool:
