Hi all,

I have a spreadsheet with a summary sheet and a detail sheet. I have now subtotaled the detail sheet according to my criteria but now needs to carry the subtotal values over to the summary sheet.

Is there a way that excel can do this by entering a link formula or something into the summary sheet. This must not be cell specific because the amount of data will change from month to month so the subtotals will not always be on the same row but will always be in the same column.

Thanks for your assistance

Use Data, What-If Analysis, Goal Seek to find the correct input cell value to reach a desired result
Perhaps you should look at using a Pivot Table to summarize/total your data rather than your current method.

Are these subtotals manually entered or via the subtotal tool?

What kind of subtotal is it - SUM, COUNT, etc?

goto your subtotal cell. Name it mysubtotal. Now you can type =mysubtotal in any cell within this file to link to that data. As you insert/delete rows or columns the name will stay with the cell and the link will still work.

To name a cell, first select it, then go Insert|Names|Define, type in a name and click Add, then Ok.

The subtotals are done via the subtotal tool and is used to sum up the amount columns.

Thanks for helping me
