I have numerous cells on a summary sheet linked to corresp. cells on other worksheets where the data is entered. Let's say the user enters $196,500.
I have an intermediate sheet that is linked to hundreds of accounts and their amounts.
Ex.
supplies 196,500
so on this intermediate sheet I format the columns so
supplies 196.5

But when I Link the cells on the summary sheets to this intermediate it is showing up as
supplies 196,500
But On the sumamry sheets I need it to come in as 196.5 so calcualtions can be done with it. I know how to paste a format, tried it. Not very efficient because sheets so complex and lengthy.

Is there a way to get the keep the changed format through the Link?? I thought changing it all on the intermediate sheet and then linking to that would work, but it isn't.
Hope I was clear enough. Thanks.

How to calculate loan payments in Excel?
Use the PMT function: =PMT(5%/12,60,-25000) is for a $25,000 loan, 5% annual interest, 60 month loan.
Formats do not follow through a link.(Not possible)

You would need a macro to do this
Need more info on how your linking

gareth, no message appears. The sheets all open without error.

There are 3 sheets all linked together like this:
cell A1 of original input sheet contains:
$196,500

cell A1 of middle sheet = cell A1 of original sheet
but here I changed format so it reads:
196.5

cell A1 of third summary sheet = cell A1 of middle sheet and so I was expecting 196.5 but it comes up as $196,500

On the summary sheet performs numerous calculations and needs cell A1 to be 196.5
not 196,500.

You may ask why not just change format on the 3rd sheet. I tried but calculations still operate as 196,500 is the figure although it looks to the user as 196.5

So I need the figures to actually change from 196,500 to 196.5

Since there are multiple input sheets with hundreds of accounts I made the middle sheet of two columns: account # and amount
and because there are multiple summary sheets all tied together that give diff. results.

Can someone remedy this for me?

OK So instead of Excel doing it I changed 196,500 to 1,96.5 by doing:

B1 = fixed(A1/1000,1) which works find and when I link the summary page cell to B1 it works fine in most the calculations except one. There are some autosums already built in to the summary sheets. But they won't work. The numbers are showing in the cells but then the autosums won't add anything, they will add it if I just type in the numbers but not the linked cells. What's up?
If I do A1+A2+A3+A4+A5+A6 it will add though. But there are so many sums throught the sumamry pages.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.
