Links to another workbook not updating.

I'm working on 2 workbooks and have to save them in the 2003-2007 format because the people who are using this don't have 2007. I'm using a lookup formula to look some data up in another workbook. When the other workbook is open the data appears normally. When it is closed the cells are blank. Anyone know what the problem might be?
