Hi all,

what is the best way to link cells in 1 sheet to cells in different workbooks.

For example -

cell 1 in master = abc1.xls
cell 2 in master = abc2.xls
cell 3 in master = abc3.xls

currently, everytime i open the master, excel is asking me to manually click on the target for each linked cell.

Also, where i have one link that i change and then paste to mulitple other cells it is making me click on the target for every occurance of the formula.

Is there a way to stop this?

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
What formulas are you using? In what way is Excel making you click on the target?

just simple "= folder address + file name + cell"

what im finding is when i change the file name part in the formula excel, rightly, wants me to click on the file in the open file window that pops up. However, when i've done 1 it makes me do all of them individually rather than applying the new path to all the duplicate formulas.

You will get the Update Values dialog if the source workbook doesn't exist. I don't know a way to suppress it, sorry.

shouldn't it go away after i do 1 though?

what i mean is when i fix cell A1 why doesnt it auto fix A2 thorugh A100 which all have the same formula in them?? the pop up box appears for every **** cell, it's crazy.
