Hi.
I am trying to compare two lists. One list are contract account codes and the second list are folder names that should also include the contract account codes. Ideally every account should have a corresponding folder name, even those with revision numbers

Unfortunately, the naming conventions have changed over the years and the data entry is not exact so I am not certain where to start.

I know it will be difficult to match data with so many variables and possible errors, but if we could at least identify any exact, partial, or zero matches between the lists, it would help us focus our efforts to find any missing data.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

List 1 Account Code

18-422 P-1
18-422
18-422 P-2
20-590
3233334
5050E-217
5050E-218
M203-1
17-438

List 2 Folder name with code

Mary had a little 18-422 P1 lamb
Little Red 18-422 Corvette 42
Purple Rain 18-422P2
Betty Crocker 20-590 2020 cookbook revised
London Bridge 3233334 75.23 North
Melody 5050 E 21
City of 5060 Lights
Magnum M 203 1 PI Hawaii 50
Rite 18 422 Duplicate

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
So, the 18-422 P-1 is the same as 18-422 P1 in Mary had a little 18-422 P1 lamb ?

Account code can exist in multiple Folder Name in List 2?

How you need your result to be?
Column A - Account Code
Column B - Folder Name with code
Column C - Matching Account Code to Folder Name in Column B ?
