I have to list and count the name in a column. There are over 2000 names that could appear and creating a countif formula for each would take too long. Is there a formula that will list all the name and the amount of time each appears?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
Try a Pivot Table: drop the names into both the Row labels and Sum fields

The issue is I would have to know all the names in the list to use a pivot table. Some of the names may be numbered companies that will only or have only been used once.

You don't have to know all the names!

Did you actually try what I suggested?
