I am trying to create a "comment" type box (within Excel 2000) that when the cursor moves over the cell, the box appears with a list of 65 items in a verticle row. The user would then click on one of the items in the list and that item would then automatically be inserted into the cell and the list box would disappear. Is this possible? Also, is it possible to have a scroll feature on the list? (65 items will take the list off of the viewable screen.)
Thanks for your assistance.

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.

Your problem sounds like a perfect application of the Data Validation functionality of Excel.

Ina separate range, enter all the acceptable values for your list, and name the range.

Select the cells into which you want the user/s to enter the data, click Data Validation => dialogue box appears.
On Settings tab , select "List" from the "Allow" dropdown box
Click in the Source field, press F3, and select your range name created above.
Fill in the information required on the Input Message & Error Alert tabs (mostly self-explanatory, but check Help for more info)
Click Ok

Then, when a cell in the input range is selected, a drop-down arrow appears in the right of the cell which allows the user to select from the list. And depending on the settings you select in Data Validation, may also prevent the user from entering any values other than on that master list.

This function is very useful for ensuring consistency of input, and/or restricting values to certain ranges, etc.
Check out Help under data validation.
