Lock Cells Across a Row for Sorting

I have a workbook with two sheets, each with the same data in column A but but different from there on out. Sheet2 column A is set to reference Sheet1 column A (Sheet 2 cell A3 ='Sheet1'!A3) so that once I put in the data in Sheet 1 it automatically appears in Sheet2.

Is there any way to 'lock' the cells in Sheet2 across their respective rows to make sorting work? Say I select the range A1:D4 in Sheet1 and sort from A-Z by column A. In Sheet2, Column A will be rearranged (because of the cell references) but the data in B1:D4 will not be sorted along with those in A1.

-Thanks
