I have an unusual situation that has just started recently

I am using a multi sheet workbook with no macros. Whe it is opened the first time after a cold boot, everything is ok but when I try to open it a scond time it says its locked for editing and therefore can only be read-only. Now I have resaved it as a copy but the same thing happens with that file and neither can be deleted unless I re-boot. Does anyone have any suggestions

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
Hello Steve Bowen, welcome to the board.
Not sure if this will help but try opening the file (after rebooting) and then go to File > SaveAs.
In the upper right corner of the SaveAs dialogbox, choose Tools > General options.
Is the 'Read-only recommended' checkbox ticked?

And you're sure there's no code in the workbook?
Have you tried setting your security to macros disabled, and then opening the file?
